Tawali Resort
Welcome to the exotic culture of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and to
Tawali Resort. Located on a volcanic bluff overlooking the clear
protected waters of
Milne Bay and accessible only by boat, Tawali Resort offers
travelers a unique location to relax and enjoy the wonders of the South
Pacific.
Tawali is a unique resort built entirely by the
local population with no use of power tools with all carvings and woodwork done
entirely by hand. Covered walkways lead away from the main building and
observation deck to guest bungalows which are all deluxe accommodations. The
five guest buildings are set around the top of a bluff overlooking the bay and
forests. Each building houses two rooms or bungalows and even though the rooms
share a common wall all bungalows are completely private even on the individual
balconies. Bungalows are very roomy with a lot of attention to detail in
woodwork, including a rosewood desk area and closets. All bungalows have
individual solar powered hot water and are air conditioned with beautiful
bathrooms and private decks. At the most Tawali will accommodate twenty divers
with ease, which makes your vacation a very intimate experience.
“Tawali”, which in the local language means “reef” is aptly named as it
sits atop a beautiful reef teaming with life. Come explore the abundant
marine life, or kayak the tropical coast dotted with villages. Learn
about the flora and fauna of New Guinea with guided hikes to skull caves and
waterfalls. Or just relax on Tawali’s spacious
observation deck nested in the thick jungle foliage 120 feet above a beautiful
coral reef. Research and read in the library which houses hundreds of
books on PNG marine life, birds and rainforests. Learn what it really
means to step back in time where the worries of the world fade and the magic of
nature unfolds.
The diving from Tawali Resort is both amazing and convenient
with the best diving just minutes away. Diving on coastal sites is done
from three 22 foot boats with a maximum of six divers each. Outer reef
diving is done from a 36 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 12 divers.
